Stage by Stage

Posted-9/4/2003 1:57:57 AM

A couple of weeks back we announced a heap of amazing acts that will be heading to Australia in October to hit LIVID stages along the east coast…

LINKIN PARK, THE WHITE STRIPES, THE LIVING END, JURASSIC 5, BLACK REBEL MOTORCYLE CLUB, THE ROOTS, ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES, FRENZAL RHOMB, YEAH YEAH YEAHS, TURBONEGRO, RESIN DOGS, GOLDFINGER, ROCKET SCIENCE, BUTTERFINGERS, GELBISON, FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY

But wait…there’s more. Lots and lots more! There’ll be a whole bunch of other acts to catch at Livid and today we’re giving you the whole deal and laying it out stage by stage.

Supporting emerging acts has always been a big priority for LIVID. The Zoo Stage at the Brisbane show has always featured lots of local acts and we’re very happy to announce that this year there will be local stages in Sydney and Melbourne as well.

LAMB are probably best known for their stirring love song ‘Gorechi’ which you’ve likely heard at a wedding or two, but this UK duo have been around for years playing their beautiful music. Nicole Kidman sang parts of ‘Gorechi’ in Moulin Rouge, and yeah well…Nicole is a top actress isn’t she. Make sure you take some time to chill out and relax at Livid to the trip hop sounds of LAMB, only on the Annex stage.

LESS THAN JAKE is the definition of punk – one of the first songs they ever wrote was written for the sole purpose of pissing off their old neighbour. Since that time they’ve certainly graduated to bigger and better things, touring the world and pissing off the parents of teenagers everywhere! Don’t miss your chance to catch these all-ages faves at Livid 2003.

PACIFIER, Australia’s favourite adopted band is back for Livid! These hardworking rockers are back from a tour of Australia and New Zealand, and their brand of good ol’ rock is the perfect soundtrack to a Livid afternoon.

Brooklyn band LIARS face a tough task at Livid – living up to the “hardest rockin’ punk dance band EVER” tag placed on them by New York’s Time Out Magazine. Featuring Australian-born frontman Angus Andrew, LIARS may be one of the many bands emerging from the dirty New York underground rock scene, but rest assured that these guys have a sound that’s all their own. We’ll leave the final word to NME – “The best krunk-art noise apes in knitwear you’ll witness all century.”

The Livid Annex has a reputation for not being afraid of a good party, and this year some of the best acts in the world will be on hand to keep the crowd moving. DEXTER is one such example. Also known for his work for The Avalanches, this DJ has been labeled by Grandmaster Flash as the most creative and innovative DJ in the world. Soon you’ll be able to judge for yourself. Any aspiring knob twiddler (of the musical kind) shouldn’t miss this lesson in perfection.

Challenging Turbonegro for the strangest act on this year’s bill, HAR MAR SUPERSTAR is set to draw a diverse crowd to his RnB (with a bit of breakdancing thrown in) infused performance on Triple J’s Bigtop stage. Not averse to wearing the odd pink shirt or cowboy-style fringed jacket, this Mixmag cover star and Ibiza DJ recently hit the big time thanks to a pash with Kate Moss. Ms Moss was only too happy to don a hairy monster’s suit and snog the Superstar for his Brothers and Sisters film clip. Warning – Har Mar is a hairy, out of shape middle-aged man, and he has been known to get down to his undies in concert. Don’t say we didn’t tell you!

The HELLACOPTERS have perfected American Rock n Roll without any pretention. This is surprising since the band is actually Swedish. Their success can be attributed to three little mantras to live by – play music that you would like to hear, keep the music makin’ muscle moving, and keep popping out albums like they’re going out of fashion.

One of the most talked-about acts in the country at the moment is LITTLE BIRDY, featuring the gorgeous vocals of Katie Steele. Recently signed to Eleven (home to Silverchair and paulmac), this band seems destined for great things, and their sound is guaranteed to mellow the hearts of the toughest music critic.

There’s simply to much musical goodness going on here to blart on about each and every act on the LIVID 2003 bill. It’s all top quality and it’s all coming your way in October!
