THE BEST ARE ON THEIR WAY

THE BEST ARE ON THEIR WAY AND WE’RE NOT TALKING RUGBY LIVID 2003 tour kicks off this weekend!
Which festival gives you the world’s biggest bands (LINKIN PARK),
coolest bands (THE WHITE STRIPES, YEAH YEAH YEAHSs) and plain
weirdest bands (TURBONEGRO, HAR MAR SUPERSTAR) plus about 55
other acts on the same bill for about the same price you’d usually pay for one
show? LIVID of course!
As you should all know by now Australia’s longest running, little battler of
the music festivals, LIVID, gets underway this weekend.
You all know how big the 2003 line up is – Linkin Park, The White Stripes,
The Living End, Jurassic 5, The Roots and many more. These are scoring points
wherever they go!
Take, for example, LINKIN PARK. Rolling Stone called their
debut album, Hybrid Theory "twelve songs of compact fire indivisibly blending
alternative metal, hip-hop, and turntable art". They then followed that up with
the awesome Meteora. So far round 22 million people around the globe have agreed
with Rolling Stones call on this awesome band! They are HUGE!
Livid’s headliners have been very busy of late collecting a heap of prestigious
awards around the globe. LINKIN PARK has recently won the Best
Rock Video category at the recent MTV Music Awards for Somewhere I Belong, beating
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Good Charlotte, System Of A Down and Metallica to win
Best International Act from the prestigious Kerrang Magazine (the world’s biggest
selling weekly Rock magazine).
Then we have The White Stripes. If it’s not enough that they
are constantly heaped with music critics’ praise, or hailed as the “saviors
of rock”, they also have to contend with winning a heap of accolades for their
most recent album Elephant. The first single from this album, 7 Nation Army,
was nominated for Best Rock Video, Best Group Video, Best Editing In A Video,
Best Special Effects In A Video and Viewer’s Choice for Best Video at the recent
MTV Music Awards. They were also nominated for Best Album in the Kerrang Music
Awards.
And here’s a little bit of goss for ya to prove just how popular The
White Stripes are – when the band had to pull out of a UK festival due
to frontman Jack White’s broken finger, their festival replacements, music
legends The Flaming Lips, dressed up in red and white like the Stripes duo and
played a couple of White Stripes songs as a tribute to the band.
If you don’t believe us, how about we tell you what the influential overseas
press has been saying about some of our Livid favourites’ live performances?
NME summed up Linkin Park’s recent UK show with this little comment,
“With Linkin Park, it's all or nothing. And 50,000 fans…singing
along to every word, welcome every single note. The stage looks great - an accident
of light and graffiti spray; they run and they shout and as the dust settles
it makes perfect sense".
Because they're so tops, we thought we would throw in a couple of live reviews
for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who are sure to be one of the highlights
of Livid if these are any to go by.
Dotmusic.com said Karen O is an immediately electrifying presence, flinging
her rag doll, lanky body at each song like it's a wall she needs to break down.
Coupled with her brilliant Siouxsie Sioux yowl of a voice, she proves she is
one of the few truly bright stars shining in the dull indie firmament. 'Rich'
is as hot and sweaty as the crazed moshpit, while 'Date With The Night' has
the grouchy, punky cool that Elastica once oozed. Their set seems to flash by
in mere seconds, leaving fans collapsed in sweating heaps and begging for more
of the same”.
And from NME – “Karen 's dressed in the kind of skintight black
dress last seen on Kylie Minogue in about 1988, prancing and rolling around
the stage like a small child that's just eaten too many smarties, while her
cohorts hold the whole thing together in thrilling style. And when they play
'Our Time', each and every person in this rammed tent sings along. Today belonged
to them".
It’s not often you get to see some of the world’s biggest bands
on the one day, but that’s what you get at this year’s Livid. Plus
there’s a heap of other top bands not mentioned here who will also be
playing on the day.
Trust us, you don’t want to be the loser kid who sits at home and doesn’t
go to Livid this year!
