If you haven’t noticed….. SPRING AIN’T SPRUNG!! posted:01
Oct
With
Melbourne’s Spring weather yet to arrive, Livid 2003 will be moving indoors
at Melbourne Park to guarantee that ticket buyers can enjoy the extensive parade
of talent in full comfort.
Due to the inclement weather conditions beseiging our fine city which give
no guarantee of a sunny day, the folks at the Livid Festival have decided to
move the festival indoors at Melbourne Park.
Bringing Livid indoors will guarantee punters a warm, dry and enjoyable day,
easy access to all venues, a relaxed atmosphere with great food, drinks, extreme
sports & break dancing (outside) and lots more entertainment.
The Livid Festival will still feature 60 bands over 5 stages at a great ticket
price!….here’s how it will all work:-
Main Stage – Rod Laver Arena
JJJ Big Top Stage – Vodafone Arena
Loudmouth Stage – The Indoor Courts
Dance Annex – Park, Skyline and Rivers Rooms
PBS’s Local & Live Stage – The Garden Square
The Main Oval will not be in use – instead the indoor arenas will host
the four main stages, with the roof open at ROD LAVER ARENA and VODAFONE ARENA
(weather permitting).
So dispel all sense of gloom and doubt – take the plunge and come to
Livid 2003 – fully weather proofed and cosy!

LAMB are probably best known for their stirring love song ‘Gorechi’ which you’ve likely heard at a wedding or two, but this UK duo have been around for years playing their beautiful music. Nicole Kidman sang parts of ‘Gorechi’ in Moulin Rouge, and yeah well…Nicole is a top actress isn’t she. Make sure you take some time to chill out and relax at Livid to the trip hop sounds of LAMB, only on the Annex stage.
LESS THAN JAKE is the definition of punk – one of the first songs they ever wrote was written for the sole purpose of pissing off their old neighbour. Since that time they’ve certainly graduated to bigger and better things, touring the world and pissing off the parents of teenagers everywhere! Don’t miss your chance to catch these all-ages faves at Livid 2003.
PACIFIER, Australia’s favourite adopted band is back for Livid! These hardworking rockers are back from a tour of Australia and New Zealand, and their brand of good ol’ rock is the perfect soundtrack to a Livid afternoon.
Brooklyn band LIARS face a tough task at Livid – living up to the “hardest rockin’ punk dance band EVER” tag placed on them by New York’s Time Out Magazine. Featuring Australian-born frontman Angus Andrew, LIARS may be one of the many bands emerging from the dirty New York underground rock scene, but rest assured that these guys have a sound that’s all their own. We’ll leave the final word to NME – “The best krunk-art noise apes in knitwear you’ll witness all century.”
The Livid Annex has a reputation for not being afraid of a good party, and this year some of the best acts in the world will be on hand to keep the crowd moving. DEXTER is one such example. Also known for his work for The Avalanches, this DJ has been labeled by Grandmaster Flash as the most creative and innovative DJ in the world. Soon you’ll be able to judge for yourself. Any aspiring knob twiddler (of the musical kind) shouldn’t miss this lesson in perfection.
Challenging Turbonegro for the strangest act on this year’s bill, HAR MAR SUPERSTAR is set to draw a diverse crowd to his RnB (with a bit of breakdancing thrown in) infused performance on Triple J’s Bigtop stage. Not averse to wearing the odd pink shirt or cowboy-style fringed jacket, this Mixmag cover star and Ibiza DJ recently hit the big time thanks to a pash with Kate Moss. Ms Moss was only too happy to don a hairy monster’s suit and snog the Superstar for his Brothers and Sisters film clip. Warning – Har Mar is a hairy, out of shape middle-aged man, and he has been known to get down to his undies in concert. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
The HELLACOPTERS have perfected American Rock n Roll without any pretention. This is surprising since the band is actually Swedish. Their success can be attributed to three little mantras to live by – play music that you would like to hear, keep the music makin’ muscle moving, and keep popping out albums like they’re going out of fashion.
One of the most talked-about acts in the country at the moment is LITTLE BIRDY, featuring the gorgeous vocals of Katie Steele. Recently signed to Eleven (home to Silverchair and paulmac), this band seems destined for great things, and their sound is guaranteed to mellow the hearts of the toughest music critic.
Livid is committed to supporting Australian artists and we believe that nurturing the local live music scene is very important.
As such, Livid have joined forces with PBS & 4 of Melbourne’s iconic venues The Espy, The Tote, The Duke Of Windsor and The Evelyn to launch the PBS LOCAL & LIVE STAGE to showcase some of Melbourne’s finest up and coming talent at this year’s Livid Festival.
This is a new initiative to showcase Melbourne bands, fostering local talent from a diverse range of musical genres plus supporting the venues and the live music scene. It will also give the punters more involvement in what local acts they want to see on a festival bill by having the chance to vote for the local band they’d like to see at Livid at each of the participating venues.
The end result will be 8 local Melbourne bands, handpicked by the four venues and the voting public, who will have the opportunity to play at the Livid Festival @ Melbourne Park. For more info check out the PBS Website on www.pbsfm.org.au,or www.livid.com.au
There’s simply to much musical goodness going on here to blart on about each and every act on the LIVID 2003 bill. It’s all top quality and it’s all coming your way in October!

2003 Melbourne Livid - posted: 03/Aug
MELBOURNE
Sunday 12 October MELBOURNE PARK
Last year saw the successful introduction to Melbourne of Australia’s
Longest running music festival, Livid.
Once again we take to Melbourne Park oval and surrounding facilities to bring
you the best lineup of acts assembled in Australia this year. Set across multiple
stages, Livid will once again bring a unique mix of indie rock/pop, dance, rock
& punk for a perfect day out.
As with last year where presenting the Main Stage on Old Scotch Oval, featuring
some of the world’s biggest acts, Rod Laver Arena will host the “JJJ
Bigtop Stage” showcasing indie Rock/Pop at its finest, The Loudmouth Stage
brings the best punk rock acts on the planet to the Vodaphone Arena and the
hip hop flavored Annex guarantees to get your feet tapping and hips moving.
As well we are proud to introduce a new stage this year, the “Fair Go
For Locals Stage” showcasing the best in new and exciting Melbourne sounds
as judged by the The Espy, Duke of Windsor Hotel, The Evelyn and The Tote.
Over the last year we have taken on board comments about the layout of the
Melbourne event and where glad to be able to say that we think we’ve got
a design that will satisfy all your requirements. Larger “wet” areas,
easy access to stages and an overhaul of the venue look will make for a more
dynamic and exciting experience.
